Public goods are no more.
Spending cuts are what's in store
For state governments and their residents.
What's been long valued has ceased to matter
With the budget all in tatters
It's reducing the deficit that takes precedent.
In the absence of government trust
Trying to increase fees proved a bust.
The need to close some state parks thus evident.
Will the spirit of Jack London nonetheless remain?
Or for the park closers make a permanent stain?
If I were one of them, I'd be hesitant.
