This Joe Nocera piece makes for a good read.  Imagine what would happen if a University President at a big R1 said to the alumni and current students that they planned to move to Division 3 in an effort to keep the ethical environment on campus from consistently being tainted by recruiting scandals, athletes who are not really students, and boosters giving buck to the stars when they aren't supposed to do that.
