Jurist Prudence

I was on jury duty this week, but I never made it past the waiting room. On 3 of the 5 days (tomorrow is one of them) they didn't call anybody in. Yesterday I went, sat around for a couple of hours, and then was dismissed, as were a majority of the others on jury duty who also were waiting.

Perhaps people have finally figured out that crime doesn't pay, though that's probably not it. Maybe most of the cases on the docket were settled - a triumph of rationality. And maybe its the time of the year. Lawyers and judges need vacations too. Still, it's a far cry from my experience 20 years ago. I was on a jury for a felony trial back then. Pretty gruesome stuff but very intriguing.

I guess I'll watch some reruns of Perry Mason.
